Harness the power of the mind to achieve your New Year’s Resolutions

I believe that it is our thoughts that create our reality and where you are in life today is therefore a direct result of your thoughts and NOT your circumstances. Most of us aren’t happy about some or many parts of our lives and New Year’s Eve is a time to reflect on the past year and set some goals for the New Year.

No doubt, one of the most popular goals is to lose weight. And, it is an important goal as there are so many benefits associated with losing weight. But yet so many fail to achieve their ideal body weight. In an interesting article by Steve Shapiro, he reveals that only 8% of people are always successful in achieving their goals. So, if you have set made a resolution and failed, you are not alone. But, it might be an opportunity to do it differently this time around.

So, how can we harness the power of the mind to help us achieve our goals? Well, one of the most important things to remember is that you need to stay focused on your goal. The mind is a funny thing and it will try and trick you into going off track. You will start making justifications for doing things that are not consistent with the achievement of your goal. Be aware of this fact! Know that your mind WILL try and trick you and you need to take control!

So, let’s have a look at a few techniques that can help you join the 8% of people who always achieve their goals.

  1. Be aware that your mind will try and trick you into justifying actions that are not consistent with the achievement of your goal.
  2. When you notice yourself trying to justify actions that aren’t consistent with achieving your goals, acknowledge that those thoughts are there but they are not thoughts that will help you create your desired reality, take a few deep breaths and take control of your thoughts again.
  3. Use affirmations daily to help you stay focused on your goals.
  4. Visualize yourself having achieved your goals as if you have already achieved them, invest your visualizations with the feelings of achievement. See yourself having achieved your goal, vibrate like you would if you had already achieved your goal, and hear compliments from people for successfully achieving your goal..

I hope these techniques help you to make 2012 a great year!
